  2. Absolutely, dude. If you do the stuff at the top, theist or atheist, you're a good person. Just because you're one or the other doesn't mean jack. It's what you do. I'm sure the point is that atheists can be good people, but too many people on both sides of the equation assume they're good just because of what they believe. It means nothing.

    Sincerely,
    Another atheist.

  3. I believe that the point is, true altruism trumps false altruism. Thus acts that are born of true altruism are worth more than acts born of false altruism.

To consider the obverse is similar to saying that monetary motivation is roughly the same as spiritual motivation.

Thus the logic in the concept that good acts that are taken purely because they are good are worth more than good acts taken out of fear of punishment or to earn a reward from another.

  4. Glad somebody understands. Comments #2 and #3 above are rubbish. All religions preach to follow exactly what this quote is saying but fail miserably. Furthermore, defining Atheism as a creed is just ignorant. Atheism is an understanding of how the world works and how a good human brain functions, free of delusion and self loathing because of lack of "Living up to" a higher power. This planet was not created in 7 days nor was it created in respects to human beings. We have lost our chance at survival and completely ruined everything and it all stems from religion. Religion > Politics > Money > The End. We will see the return of Alien lifeforms before the return of your fabricated Jesus Christ considering all the stories, written hundreds of years after said occurrences are based on the creatures found in ancient hieroglyphs which are obviously not "gods" in the religious respect. It's time to wake up and anyone whom refutes anything I've said can respectfully debate as there is nothing in the world that can combat Science and reason.

  5. The problem with the statement is arguing that altruism exists. Any act, regardless of how small or how large, has a benefit to the provider of that act. We derive a benefit, even if it is personal satisfaction. As we benefit in some way, "true" altruism does not exist.

  6. "Atheism is an understanding of how the world works and how a good human brain functions, free of delusion and self loathing because of lack of "Living up to" a higher power"

Total garbage! Atheism is the belief that there are no higher powers or God controlling or guiding or actions out ultimate disposition. That's it. Nothing deeper or more profound than that.

    1. That is the definition of Atheism, good job. Now open the book and read into it. Theism is an obvious mental disorder, therefore in essence a complete misunderstanding of how the world works or how a brain needs to work to be functional. The opposite of that is Atheism which should not even be a word because Theism, being proven incorrect throughout history should have been forgotten before man started it. Your comment is vary narrow and misguided and you may find answers you struggle with by watching Richard Dawkins, look him up and learn a bit before you comment.

    2. Hi,

I'm not really preaching anything. Yes I would like it if people understand what they are doing to their lives by blindly believing in things that are non-existing. But still these are my views and I'm just letting people know what I think. That's it.

  7. this message would be a lot better without the I am athiest at the end. It is telling us how selfish people are in this world. because believe it or not the majority of people do those thing for selfish reasons, such as wanting to be rewarded for doing a good thing, and or fear of being punished for not doing good things. This is a good message about selfishness but shouldnt be represented by a certain beliefe.

    1. Hi,

I completely agree, but I just want people to understand that they can take control of their lives and make things happen. They don't have to sit around and wait for some miracle. And that is possible when you know what you are doing and you are not believing in a so called "Destiny". But thanks for your opinion. I appreciate it.
