To make your life worthwhile, you need to take your own decisions and live the way you want to. If someone else makes decisions on your behalf then it's not your life, it's theirs. And if you have friends who you can trust, from whom you can take advices in order to make hard choices then its like icing on a cake. You don't need a million people around you to make your life good, its just you need to be content with what you have and what you get. And this is possible only when you make decisions on your own.
